Getting around
The MRT is the city's circulatory system - frequent, freezing-cold, and tap-payable with any contactless bank card (no tourist card needed). Buses fill every gap with the same tap-in/tap-out. Grab is the ride-hail default; street taxis are honest and metered. Walking works in the cool hours, and the underground mall network lets you cross Downtown without surfacing. Sentosa connects by cable car, boardwalk or monorail. Bikes and the Park Connector Network make East Coast Park a great sunset ride. From Changi, the MRT reaches town in ~45 minutes; jewel-gawking first is mandatory.
Money & connectivity
The Singapore dollar (SGD) is strong and stable. Contactless cards work everywhere a register exists, including hawker stalls increasingly via QR - but carry S$20-40 cash for the older uncles' stalls. No tipping: a 10% service charge plus GST appears on restaurant bills (the "++"). ATMs everywhere. eSIMs are seamless; Singtel/StarHub/M1 tourist SIMs are cheap with huge data, and free Wi-Fi (Wireless@SG) covers malls and MRT areas. Prices online usually exclude the ++, so mentally add ~19% at sit-down places.
Health & safety
Singapore is statistically about the safest country you can visit - the standing joke is that the biggest crime risk is your own jaywalking fine. Real considerations: heat and humidity (hydrate, pace, duck into AC), sudden downpours (every mall hands out the same lesson: carry a brolly), and dengue awareness in residential areas - repellent at dawn/dusk. Tap water is excellent. Healthcare is world-class and priced accordingly - insurance still matters. The law is famously strict: no littering, no gum imports, zero tolerance on drugs (capital-level penalties), smoke only in marked zones, no e-cigarettes at all. Emergency numbers: 999 (police), 995 (ambulance/fire).

Culture & etiquette
Singapore's social code is considerate efficiency: queue properly, stand left on escalators (locals walk right), return your hawker tray (it's the law now), and "chope" seats with a tissue packet like everyone else. Keep durians off public transport - genuinely banned. Multi-faith respect is baked in: cover shoulders at temples and mosques, remove shoes where indicated. Singlish is affection, not error - a "can lah!" means yes with warmth.
